Hello, Students and Ms. Wenzell
In today blog I will introduce my project's subject and also the reason I decided to choose this particular subject or line of work to shadow.
I picked plastic and reconstructive surgery as the topic for my Capstone project because I always wanted to scope the field of any type of career that includes surgical procedures. I have always had an interest in medicine so I realized that doing my project on reconstructive surgery would help me figure out if I want to be a surgeon. On January 8th I first met my mentor, Dr. Javaheri who is one of the best plastic surgeons in California, I was extremely nervous to meet him and find out if he would even consider being my mentor. But he is a really nice and generous person who is helping me achieve a thorough understanding of the plastic surgery industry.
He gave me some of his background information and talked to me about the challenges for becoming a surgeon. The fact that you have to be the top ranked in your class to get into certain program and the amount of hard work and dedication it requires were the ones that really stick out to me . Then he showed me some of the work he did on his patient, and the different surgeries from liposuction, implants, fire victims to cancer patients. He really gave me a detailed lecture on the basics of reconstructive surgery. Alright that's it for this blog read my next post on the steps for receiving yours credentials and surgeon's licence also known as Residency.
Peace
